Convicted Victim The Earth is full of billions of people who since the start of time have disagreed because of the differences between them. People are divided by race, gender, religion, and many other probabilities. Human disagreements can escalate into arguments and sometimes full-blown fights. Fighting results in either minor injuries like a black eye or a bloody nose or major injuries like losing a limb or death. Depending on what the argument is about people can resolve their issues without any bloodshed or mediator involvement. When civil agreements can not be made death becomes the only option like the death of Mr. Wright in Susan Glaspell’s Trifles. Little information is given as to why Mrs. Wright’s kitchen I so messy therefore, the audience is left wondering if the reason is because she left in a hurry like the Sheriff said they did or because she was to “done up” to clean it (773;776). Based on how messy the Kitchen is Mrs. Wright was probably in the middle of cleaning when her husband or something distracted her. Especially Since very few people would leave their food out when they leave home or allow their fruit jars to break in the harsh weather conditions like Mrs. Wright did (775-6). Therefore, when Mrs. Wright returned to her cleaning the distraction made her too emotional to continue. Mr. Hale even told the County Attorney Mrs. Wright “looked queer/ as if she didn’t know what to do next” when he came by the day before (773). After accessing that information for a moment or two the group proceeds to split up and get what they came after. Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale search the house while discussing the childhood friendship Mrs. Hale had with Minnie Foster who is now Mrs. Wright. Mrs. Hale compares Minnie to a bird both being “real sweet and pretty, but kind of timid and—fluttery,” at the same time (780).
