There are many supporters and many people who think it is wrong. Over one hundred and two countries have abolished the death penalty. In the United States there are currently thirty one states with the death penalty, and eighteen states that have abolished it ("Death Penalty"). The death penalty should be legal worldwide. Although it might be wrong to kill someone, a person who committed murder, rape, or any other serious crimes should be put to death. From 1977 to May of 2016 1,436 people have been executed mainly by lethal injection. They are forty one different crimes that are considered capital punishment. “The capital offenses include espionage, treason, and death resulting from aircraft hijacking. However, they mostly consist of various forms of murder such as murder committed during a drug-related drive-by shooting, murder during a kidnapping, murder for hire, and genocide” ("41 Federal Capital Offenses."). The use of the death penalty gives many families closure. Knowing that the person who killed, rape, tortured, etc. is dead and cannot do the same thing to anyone else brings plenty of relief. The victim or the victim’s family could never get back what they have lost, but with the death penalty in effect they will feel reassured and even safer (Messerli). The death penalty can cause crime rates to go down. Death is one of the biggest fears of a human being. Life in prison is not as scary as death. Some criminals can escape and commit heinous crimes again. They can even kill people within the prison. Including correctional officers and people who work at the prison. There is always a chance that person who commits a murder and get released on parole will go back and murder again. Same thing goes for a rapist. If a person is killed the first time they commit such a heinous crime it stops other people from getting hurt …show more content…
Overcrowding is a huge problem within the prison system. Carrying out the death penalty can help with overcrowding in prison. For people who commit capital punishments crimes and will never get out prison should be put to death. It cost a lot of money to feed and house inmates for the rest of their lives. Tax payer’s money should not be used to help feed and take care of murders and rapist. They should not be taking care of and cater to. The death penalty will also help with saving money. The money used to take care of people with life imprisonments can be put towards more important things that society needs
