How would you handle a journey which seems never-ending? In Gillan Cross’s interpretation of The Odyssey, we notice several events that have had a domino effect upon each other. As the story went on we noticed how certain events categorize themselves into different parts of the Hero’s Journey (12 stages). Then as the story progresses we see archetypes that reinforce the idea that The Odyssey is a monomyth. Throughout The Odyssey, Odysseus goes through difficult obstacles and decisions.

Even though others had struggled, he had the worst time during the twenty years he was away. Looking at the effects the time had on Odysseus and his father Laertes were very different. Many people question if Beowulf is considered a hero and if what he did was good. The journey that he embarked on, leads me to believe that Beowulf is a hero and always will be. This quote relates to the two poems, The Odyssey and “The Journey”, which discuss the difficulties of achieving a goal. In both poems, the main characters are faced with many obstacles that they must overcome. They do eventually defeat these obstacles through determination. The Odyssey focuses on the obstacles that Odysseus has to overcome in order to make it back to his homeland, Ithaca.

What is the purpose of a quest? We see people going on quests everyday in the news, at school, even in the books we read. Every human has gone on at least one quest in their lives, but why do we do it? What is the purpose? What do we get out of it?

It has mainly three stages called the separation, the initiation and lastly the return, but in each stage it has more steps. I see it as if the hero is walking up some stairs to become a hero. This is a story about a man named Odyssey and his many adventures. Odyssey left Ithaca, his home town, to go to Troy to fight in the Trojan war with his men. After 10 years of war, on his way back home there were many complications that he ran into trying to get back to his wife and son. They battled many storms with heavy rain and winds but one of the first adventures that Odyssey stumbled upon was when they discovered the Land of the Cyclopes. He was intrigued by the one-eyed giants and wanted to take a closer look.
