The main character, Bigger Thomas, had many internal conflicts that led to his demise. Bigger’s perception of the segregated world in the late 1900’s, clouded his judgment. On page 34, Bigger stated,”they own this world”. Basically, Bigger felt inferior to the white people, because they had everything he needed, wanted but couldn’t get. He didn’t know how to respond to the kindness that was shown to him by fellow characters, that led to him making many treacherous decisions. Bigger let fear overcome him through the book and that ruined many lives including Mary Dalton and her family, Bessie Mears and Bigger’s and his family. Bigger had a lot of responsibilities which made him fearful. He was the oldest male, so there was pressure on his back
