What is truly greed? The dictionary say’s greed is “a selfish and excessive desire for more of something (such as money) than is needed” (merriam-webster, n.d.) and the human society has displayed the concept of greed through the arts. There are three pieces of art that I have choose to talk about, that display the concept of greed with in the human society. The Juniper tree by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm(literature) (Grimm), The Seven Deadly Sins by Hieronymus Bosch(oil panting) (Bosch) http://www.hieronymus-bosch.org/105856/Tabletop-of-the-Seven-Deadly-Sins-and-the-Four-Last-Things-(2)-large.jpg and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (Jackson, 2013)(Film). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYOJZm0FXPw

Trying to keep an Empathetic approach to religion, I choose to focus on the Avarice(greed) portion of the painting because that is my theme for this project. In this portion of the painting it looks like grey haired man to the right is pay someone to assisted him and seeing that there looks to be scribes sitting down taking notes, it might be that the grey-haired man is paying off a judge. The Desolation of Smaug is the second movie of a three-part series. I choose this move because there are a lot of scenes that show the concisions of greed but I’m only ongoing to look at two the dragon greed for the gold and how it consumes him and makes him over confident, then there’s Bilo (the main character) and his golden ring that makes him invisible. The Gold ring makes Bilo greedy and obsessed with the ring. The greed that Bilo has for the ring creates an anger person inside and this is displayed well with in the film by him snapping at anyone that want to see the ring. After the first 6 weeks of class I watched The Desolation of Smaug again knowing I was doing my final paper on Greed and I know have a known found respect for anything doing with the Arts and Humanity. I was looking for a relationship or meaning during the whole movie so that I could relate it in some way to culture or
