What is Racism?
Racism is a social issue that continues to plague society as people work toward the common good. It arises as a result of individuals seeking dominance and power over those of different race and ethnicity. Unfortunately, this ideology causes both harm and suffering to those targeted and a sense of superiority to perpetrators. Furthermore, on a global scale, it fosters a culture of fear, neglect, and dehumanization.

During the summer of 1967, the black community fought back violently in an effort to establish equivalent treatment in terms of jobs opportunities and wage. Moreover, Detroit had segregated schools and housing that aided in the community’s choice to start a revolt. The City’s racist attitude towards its citizens unfortunately lead to this immediate devastating outcome and long lasting damage. Residents fled in fear, leaving belongings and houses behind, which exemplifies the culture of terror racism creates. Similarly to those who make racist comments anonymously online, those who do the same in the workplace do not admit to their wrongdoings. This results in damage to the wellbeing of those targeted, much like the previous incidences of racism, such as slavery and segregation, caused. Furthermore, racism in the workplace does not only occur within a company, but also before individuals are hired. For example, studies have shown that employers of the same race as the person applying for a job plays a role in whether or not the individual is hired. If the employee is the same race as the employer, they are more likely to be hired. Ultimately, God intended for workers to have rights and safe working environment, however, racism in the workplace counteracts this
