The development of teenagers' brains impacts their actions by making them more prone to risky fighting, and impulsive love. This truth is shown throughout the story of Romeo and Juliet in their choices and actions. Romeo is an example of how the development of the teenage brain impacts his actions. In the book, Romeo makes risky choices and gets involved in a fight without considering the consequences that will later affect him. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo makes the rash decision to stab Tybalt after he killed Mercutio and later receives the consequence of being exiled from Verona which prevents him from seeing Juliet. Romeo and Juliet impulsively decided to get married after meeting once and not truly getting to know each other. They also make the risky decision of meeting each other at night when they know this could lead to the consequence of trouble between their families. This decision could be impacted by the development of their teenage brain that leads to rushing into love and love addiction. Romeo and Juliet's relationship shows how adolescents can become addicted to a thrilling stage of new love. According to Brogaard “the adolescent brain makes young people susceptible to love addiction. By "love," I mean the physiological and psychological experience associated with one’s judgment that she has “fallen in love” (Brogaard). This quote shows how young people can become addicted to love due to their brains and therefore misjudge when they have fallen in love and make impulsive decisions based on this judgment. This is shown in Romeo and Juliet's “love” because they have only known each other for a short amount of time and decide that they have fallen in love which leads them to impulsively choose to get married although their marriage will cause conflict.
