Animal testing dangerous to humans
Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
There is much controversy over whether or not animals should be used to test new procedures and medications. I personally believe that animal testing is crucial to scientific development. Every life lost is a tragedy but as seen in the story, Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keys, it will help us determine what will happen to a human test subjects without human losses. In this essay I will support my belief that animal research is important to human survival and is worth the risk. Animal research has played a vital part in nearly every medical breakthrough over the last decade.
Animal testing is a research done to see the effect of an experiment and product and after that results scientist decide whether or not to continue the same experiment to humans. For example, when a cosmetic or makeup product is made scientist test the product to see how
Over 100 million animals are used as test subjects in the world, with approximately 26 million of them in the United States. Sadly, a majority of the time the products that are being tested on animals are not even effective once human trials begin. Consumers might object that if the products were tested to be safe on animals then they would be safe for humans. Yet, 92% of the times the products actually work in animal trials they are later deemed too dangerous or uneffective for people. Which means that most of the animals used in scientific testing are being abused for no apparent reason.
Purpose: To inform the audience about animal testing I. Introduction A. Attention getting device: Approximately 26 million animals are used every year in US laboratories for cosmetic and biomedical research. B. Thesis: I would like to inform you about how animal testing is conducted. C. Credibility: I have read and studied the articles about animal testing. D. Preview: I am going to share with you purposes of animal testing, how animals are used in laboratory tests, and the effectiveness of animal testing.
"The term 'animal testing' refers to procedures performed on living animals for purposes of research into basic biology and disease. Asserting the effectiveness of new medicinal products, and testing the human health and/or environmental safety of consumer and industry products such as cosmetics, household cleaners, food additives, pharmaceuticals and industrial/Argo-chemicals (“About Animal Testing”)”. 3. Till this day, animal testing is considered justified because scientists believe any type of animal is obligated to sacrifice itself in order to make new products safer for human use and consumption (“Save the Animals”).
Animal testing is cruel, unjust, and wasteful, and it needs to stop. It is used to test cosmetics, to gain scientific knowledge, and for tests in schools. The Humane Society states that animal testing is tests performed on live animals for basic biology, medicinal, safety, or health research. Even small procedures have the capabilities to cause the animal high stress or discomfort. Some animals are used in future experiments, but most are killed soon after the tests.
Humanity has a history of experimentation on animals and death is what will come of it if animals continue to be treated inhumanely. On a daily basis animals are removed from their natural habitat and taken to labs to be tested on for human products. Animal experimentation has become a very popular method of research and testing. This procedure is most common in the United States and European countries, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom being the most popular.
Millions upon millions of animals are killed mercilessly every year due to these experiments. “Most animal experiments are not relevant to human health, they do not contribute meaningfully to medical advances and many are undertaken simply out of curiosity and do not even pretend to hold promise for curing illnesses” (Animal). Not only does this testing waste animal lives, but humans as well. Because animal testing is so ineffective, many humans have contracted illness, irritations, mental problems, etc. because of these drugs being successful on animals and not humans.
Animal testing has been involved in medical research for a long time, resulting in an improvement of human health. The benefits of animal testing for medical research outweigh the drawbacks. Although opponents argue that the drawbacks of animal testing outweigh the benefits because animal testing is cruel, in actuality, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks because it saves human lives and is an affordable option. Many opponents argue that one drawback of animal testing is cruelty. They state that animals are subject to dreadful conditions, in the sense that they are restricted from daily activities.
Abstract Animal testing the experiments performed on animals that are used to test the effectiveness and safety of a wide range of things, from medication to cosmetics. They are also used to understand how the human body works. Animal testing is one of the major controversial issues, but animal testing has dramatically contributed to science. First, some people think that animal testing should not be used for testing medical techniques and drugs. However, medical research involving animal testing improved the health of human beings.
In the article The Flaws and Human Harms of Animal Experimentation by Aysha Akhtar, she sums up the average truth and beliefs of someone who knows that this form of testing should be outlawed due to the unreliability of accurate results. In this article, Aysha reveals the validity and unreliability of testing on animals due to the differences in a growing and developing body compared to a helpless non-human animal with a different body make-up. She clearly discusses the number of animals that are being tested annually, “more than 115 million” (Akhtar, p. 407), with either human diseases or medical products. She goes on to say that obviously, medications and diseases should be further researched and have a prior evidence basis before being in contact with humans, though testing on such helpless animals that are not nearly as close to humans as they assume, give a unlikely truth to the results and do not clearly show the effects of medications or diseases would have on the average human (Akhtar, p.
Throughout thousands of years, animal testing has been proven to be beneficial for the human race. While it has done a wonderful job for us, it has only injured, killed and put an enormous amount of pain on animals. The exact number of animals used in research yearly is unknown, due to official government statistics not including mice, rats, birds, fish, or other animals used for testing: some estimates put the total number to be 26 million. The use of animals for scientific research is cruel and inhumane, while both humans and animals share similar traits, they are both made up of completely different genes making them poor test subjects to begin with and may mislead or cause side effects for both parties.
Animal testing is a phrase that most people have heard but are perhaps still unsure of exactly what it involve. Whether it is called animal testing, experimentation or research, it should be defined as all testing methods on animals including, medical exploration, cosmetics, toxicology trialing, and psychological examination involving animal subjects. It is used to assess the safety and effectiveness of medications and beauty products as well as understanding how the human physiology works. While supporters believe it is necessary practice, those against animal testing believe that it involves torture and suffering to animals. Medical research is the hardest case of proposition in the debate whether animal testing should be banned or not, since it has previously yielded substantial benefits for humanity.
It is true that animal testing requires a lot of investment. Not only that money is spent on advanced technologies, it is also spent to pay for scientists’ expertise on this particular field. In order for the scientists to do their research, they need suitable equipment and substances. Every year, the National institutes of Health finances between $12 billion to $14.5 billion on animal testing as indicated in a study done by the government (Bastach, 2013). Besides, scientists need to consider the fact that animals need to be sheltered, fed and cared for to keep them alive.
In spite of that, some people believe that animal testing is not essential and it should be banned because animals are different from humans physically. In addition, they believe that animal tests are a waste of time and money and there are lower cost alternative methods and more effective. Our purpose of this essay is to prove that animal testing is important and has a lot of benefits and advantages for humanity. Using animals in medical and scientific experiments is necessary, because it finds many cures and treatments, animals bodies are almost similar to the human bodies, also it benefits the animals themselves from diseases.
