Over the years, conversations about the topics of Plato’s writings arise. The teachings from Socrates of the “Parable of the Sun, Myth of the Cave and Divided Line” have become very popular to the world. So popular that it has an impact on the movie industry, the stories are hidden in some movies. More movies depict the stories” The Divided Line and The Myth of the Cave “ rather than “The Parable of the Sun.” The movie, eXistenZ, is an example of “The Myth of the Cave and The Divided Line”, since the stories are very similar. The movie has many similarities to “The Myth of the Cave”, but can correlate better to “The Divided Line” for more structure.
Moreover,eXistenZ, has many different relations to each step of “The Divided Line.” The first stage in “The Divided Line”, Imagination, or in “The Myth of the Cave” when the person is trapped below inside the cave. Imagination is when shadows, reflections, or dreams seem real but are not that. Understanding is similar to beliefs or an opinion that someone would have. Allegra held a belief at the end of the movie, that Yugenie should be punished for all the harm that he will do and has done to everyone. With her belief being so strong it encouraged Ted as well to go along with the movement, as an end result of Yugenie being killed along with his assistant. Also with Ted believing that he had to kill someone at the Chinese restaurant and that person had to be their waiter. The more that they start to have opinions/beliefs/feelings the more they begin to change into evil characters. In “The Myth of the Cave” when he sees the shadow on the ground he believes that it is the actual object, but has no truth that it is if it looks similar to what was seen inside the
