Aya keeps a scrapbook to keep track of all of the memories she has had, good or bad. The images, and decorations she places in the scrapbook all have a personal meaning to her. Some items describe her character, others represent her home life and emotions. Aya’s scrapbook is almost like a diary, it becomes an outlet for her to put her emotions into, but not exactly into words. For if the other Orphans read an actual diary, they might think she is crazy, but they might not understand the scrapbook, thinking it’s rather a place for her to put some pictures. There are several other colors that show Aya’s true feeling through deep digging. When Jun is at his weekly ballet class, Aya becomes jealous of the, “ flat-chested little girls in white leotards.” The white shows their innocence and purity, as well as the fact that Aya doesn’t possess that trait. Pink and red demonstrate Rie’s weakness to succumb to Aya’s tricks, hostile motives, and how much danger she is in while she is around Aya. The gray on Aya’s dress shows how she is consumed by the darkness and how it is almost a part of her. Aya holds many relationships, but almost all of them are unhealthy and negative. Her father and mother’s lives are built around the church and orphanage, not Aya. To represent this a cross is on the page as well as a family portrait discluding Aya. Jun is basically Aya’s world, and what keeps her going everyday. Jun can be defined by his love for swimming, and also his ability to show compassion for others. The orphans resemble what Aya wishes she could be, a parentless child vying for the attention of her saviors.The picture shows Aya’s face replacing the orphans.
Rie is simply a toy , she is used to a vent for Aya’s emotions to disappear into. Watching Rie cry gives her
