In her story “The Dog Who Wanted to Die”, Colleen Archer tells the story of a fatty dog named Monty, who came into a new neighborhood and eventually found a new family who cared a lot about him and became a lifesaver. At the story's beginning, the owner of Montey, the Claphmas, rented a house next door to a 15-year-old, David Paker, who lived with his mother. The Calphmas were the worst neighbors ever for David. They were a lousy family who didn’t even care about their pet. At first, when David saw Monty, he badly hated him because of the way Monty looked. Monty was fatty with a bad smelly dog.
David wasn’t happy about his dad leaving them. He was always wondering why he had left them even though he had a great job there because he guessed the reason was to get a better job. One day his mother confirmed to him that the reason was that they had decided to separate. But this made David more disappointed. As a result, he was getting low marks in school.

However, they left Monty. When he saw Monty he was so surprised. He couldn’t imagine that people could go away and leave their pets behind. He would have called the Humane Society to take Monty out of his eye, but he realized that it would be a favor for Monty, so he didn’t call. While David was contemplating this, a truck drove quickly in their direction and abruptly halted when the driver noticed that there was a fat dog in the middle of the road. The driver yelled at David because he believed Monty to be his pet. David didn’t say, “he is not mine.” Quite the opposite, he called Monty nicely because something from inside his body stopped him. Although he allowed Monty to stay with him, his attitude towards him seemed unchanged. The circumstance caught David's mother off
