World War 1 began on until July 28, 1914. After, the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, and his wife Sophie was assassinated.They were assassinated by Serbian nationalist, Gavrilo Princip, in Sarajevo, Bosnia. After the assassination, Austria-Hungary blamed the Serbian government for the attack and hoped to use it as a justification for settling the question of the Serbian nationalism. Days after the assassination, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. On the same day Germany declared war on Russia, on August 1, 1914. Days later, Germany declared war on France.This lead country after country to declare war on each other, which started World War I. Which is an agreement for peace and no more fighting. On November 3, 1918, Austria-Hungary signed an armistice as well. World War 1 ended on November 11, 1918, at 11 a.m, when Germany agreed to sign an armistice to surrender, until a peace treaty was formally formed. On June 28, 1919 The treaty of Versailles was signed between Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy and Germany to formally end the war. (“World War 1”) After the war, sixteen plus million people had died. The war had killed about seven million civilians and ten million military soldiers. The Allies had around 6 million deaths and the Central Powers had four million deaths. However, many people died from disease caused by the war, not from combat. The United States experienced far less deaths than its allies in World War One. During the war six million people went missing and were announced dead. Germany had the most military deaths with 2.1 million. Russia had the highest total death roll with 3.8 million. Serbia had the highest percentage rate of their population killed 16.11%.
