Marrys Downfall The tragic hero is one readers see in many stories. Their horrible ends read time and time again. Their fatal flaws, anger, hatred, and fear, bring their demise. Mary Warren from The Crucible, started off in act one, a subservient, naive, lonely girl, but by act three, she slowly loses herself to her fear of Abigail and the court, which causes her to bow down to the likes of liars. Mary’s downfall is surely a tragic story, although that's not how she started out. Mary Warren started off in The Crucible, a subservient, naive girl, and enters the play scared from the word of witchcraft around town. The reader can see she believes that witchcraft is involved, because she watched Abby drink a charm to kill John Proctors wife. Its later on in the trials she starts to understand that Abby is sending innocent people to their death, but is to scared of what Abby would do if she stands up. She starts to stand up to John Proctor, seeming to have a new found confidence. She is still naive about Abby and what she is doing, but with the help of John Proctor, she begins to understand whats happening and admits she was pretending to be choked by spirits in the court. She goes before the court to testify the evil Abby is commiting. That is until she lets her fear destroy her, and bring her downfall. Abby and the other girls try to convince the court that Marry is involved with witchcraft and is sending their spirit out to hurt them. Instead of standing strong to face the court and Abby, she gives in and falls victim to Abby and the lies she
