The Drummer Boy of Shiloh is a historical fiction novel. The author is the late Ray Bradbury.Ray is known as a science fiction writer and he is also known for writing mysteries, etc. The Battle of Shiloh lasted for 2 days and it was one of the bloodiest battles in American history. My thesis is that there will be another battle and there will be a drummer boy. There are uses of symbols in the novel. It includes leaves, the drum, and the peach.

Ray uses the leaves to represent fire. And fire represents light and heat which symbolizes the soldiers huddling together. It says,“I see the hands stirring the leaves and opened his mouth to say something, but did not say it(Pg.170).This means they were starting up a fire and it matters that they have fire so they don’t die before the war.The boy was scared to say something because he didnt want to get caught. Now I will talk about a different symbol.
