Childe Hassam created a beautiful piece titled Northeastern Gorge At Appledore. The painting is created using oil on canvas and it was created in 1912. The painting was purchased by the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art where it is displayed in a large frame. The artist combined the subject of her piece and the form to create meaning. Hassam used visual elements of form such as line, color, and texture and principles of organization such as repetition and focal point to support his work.
As can be seen in the image, humanity and human individuals attempts to search for comfort and fulfillment in different landscapes. In Gwen Harwood’s At Mornington, the author represents the place that nature and landscapes have within humanity’s search for satisfaction and the perpetual nature of the environment around us. Harwood employs form, structure, the perspective shifts and her choice of language within her representation to augment this relationship, with the consistent interweaving of past and present creating juxtapositions between the constant of the environment and the ever-changing nature of human life, Humanity seeks to find meaning in the transience of life, and Harwood illustrates this concept through examining the persistence
The story “The Veldt” is about parents that don’t show their children enough love and they let technology do it for them and the children end up loving the technology more than they love their parents. Now in the end the children use their nursery to murder the parents. The author Ray Bradbury used lots of figurative language, imagery, and diction to really show the audience what was going on and give them an insight on how it’s gonna end. Since the technology controlled the whole house it was everywhere and everyone used it.
Ray Bradbury uses several craft moves throughout his dystopian story names ‘The Veldt’. Using imagery, foreshadowing, and irony; Ray Bradbury enriches the story with these varying craft moves. Each is used to place the setting and feel of the story in the readers’ minds. Imagery is a craft move that was used to detail important areas in the story and help sell the scene Bradbury is creating to the reader. This is used to build a mood; one in particular is suspense.
But, nature does not exclude humans, human excludes themselves from nature. Within the “mists of [the] chopping sea of civilized life, such are the clouds and storms and quicksands and thousand and one items to be allowed for”(277). He uses clouds and storms and quicksands to convey that civilized life includes the same negativity included in the connotation of those conditions, but nonetheless, those too are apart of nature. The purpose of utilizing imagery is so evoke images people already have to connect with them on that level to make them understand that they must find a harmony and balance in the world. So, in order to restore order within one’s individual life, one must defy the social norms that distance themselves from nature to find harmony with it.
1) Athena played a huge role in ensuring Odysseus’ safety and acceptance on Skheria. On page 99, it quotes “so on this night the goddess, grey-eyed Athena, entered the palace of Alkínoös to make sure of Odysseus’ voyage home.” When Nausikaa was sleeping, Athena disguised herself as Dymas’ daughter, a good friend of Nausikaa, and instructed her go to the washing pools in the morning to do the laundry. Athena intentionally sent Nausikaa to the area where Odysseus was sleeping. She knew Nausikaa, the daughter of Alkínoös, would be able to assist Odysseus in the asking of Alkínoös’ and Arêtê’s assistance in his voyage home.
My initial thought of the piece was that she was creating a scene encompassing the changing of seasons and how they flow from one to another, parallel to that of a stream. Patiently, over time, this piece’s identity began to morph into a more complex ideology. The theme that Sakoto Fujikasa is expressing through her piece is to show how the encompassment of life is comprised of the various emotions we express and sense.
The fog is a symbol for corruption of the future generation. While “we”, the adults, are sleeping, meaning being unaware and ignorant of what’s happening; the children are getting corrupted by the fog of social media and peer pressure. Fog is used to represent corruption because people get lost and disoriented in heavy fog and it is often portrayed as an ominous entity in film making and narratives. This all leads back to the main point of the world becoming corrupt and needing to be led into the next era; to do this, mapmakers have to step up and guide humanity. Another example of the corruption of modern society is the line “Our forgetfulness stalks us, walks the earth behind us, leav-/ing a trial of paper diapers, needles, and wasted blood” (Harjo 22-23).
Most people would expect the artists painting to be monopolized by one perspective of nature. However, the artist incorporates both the violent and beautiful sides of nature. The artist explained how “the long-necked lily-flower which, deep in both worlds, can be still as as a painting” (Hughes 22-24). The artist proves how the even if beauty is surrounded by negativity, nature 's beauty will not be consumed by its violence. Most people would also expect the artist to put an emphasis on nature 's violence, especially after the repeated mention of the violent parts of nature.
Many people who go into nature always see it as something beautiful and aesthetic, but they never see the other side to nature. Humankind’s connection with nature isn’t a real one. They always look at the bright side of nature but are blind to the true dark side of nature. JB MacKinnon’s article “False Idyll” (2012), reveals that nature is not just flowers in a field but can also be the survival of the fittest. He backs up his claim by talking about nature through anecdotes and expert’s research.
The first act of the film has the function to exhibit the nature environment before humanity, the appearance of the first ancestors, and the rapid evolution development of the species. These are represented in the film focus on the life and survival of a small humanoid tribe in the desert. The first act present the environment as an empty, lack of life or diversity during a sunrise. These scenes are used for symbolic representation as the ecosystem or the environment before humanity appears. Later during the first act start appearing the first primitive ancestor, a humanoid form in this habitat performing their regular activities, as well as their organizational and social structure.
Nature is easily projected onto, as it allows for a sense of peacefulness and escapism. Due to its ability to evoke an emotional reaction from the masses, many writers have glorified it through various methods, including describing its endless beauty and utilizing it as a symbol for spirituality. Along with authors, artists also show great respect and admiration for nature through paintings of grandiose landscapes. These tributes disseminate a fixed interpretation of the natural world, one full of meaning and other worldly connections. In “Against Nature,” Joyce Carol Oates strips away this guise given to the environment and replaces it with a harsher reality.
Regardless of where one lives, nature surrounds them. It is quiet in the winter, blossoms in the spring, flourishes in the summer, and then finally it lays to rest in autumn. Often in literature, writers utilize natural imagery because it is something that can be easily understood by everybody regardless of race, gender, religion, creed, and ethnicity. This imagery provides a deeper understanding of the book, play, story, or poem for the reader. The prominent playwright William Shakespeare uses natural imagery throughout his play Macbeth to foreshadow upcoming events in the plot (or provide a deeper understanding of the play/its characters).
