Throughout the development of this book, many themes and ideas about the book develop to help explain the characters and why they made the decisions they made. It is clear that one’s identity back in those days was connected to one’s gender and so I argue that even though the relationships between opposite genders seem more positive in the book, the same gender relationships are more stable even in their different degrees of tension. We first see this through an observation of the relationship between Lola and her mother Belicia.
A huge wall of water rushed picking up and throwing anything in its path. It threw trees and cars like a pitcher throws a ball in a game of baseball. It wrecked homes and killed poor innocent people. Luckily Dad was holding Scar and was able to hold on to her. Mom and Char could see each other but they weren’t
It It f It frustrates me what Dr. Anna Pou had to go through with the lawsuits of the Memorial Medical Center incident. As Healthcare professionals, being sued for making the rightful decision for the patient and the hospital is unjust. Healthcare professionals like Dr. Pou, have taken the Hippocratic oath, and one of the promises made within that oath is “first, do no harm”. Hospital’s should not be so quick to make such an important decision of pressing charges to their faculty; more trust should be placed in them. In addition, she made it clear her intentions were just to ‘‘help’’ patients ‘‘through their pain,’’ on national television.
These storms destroyed huge areas. The people tried to “storm proof’ their houses as much as possible. Every crack that could be plug was plug with sheets, blankets, or anything else that they could find. He writes about the beauty of Appalachia but also points out the risks of lightning and sudden thunderstorms. Bill describes a perilous situation when he and Katz get caught in a thunderstorm on top of a mountain. He writes: “The lightning was so close now that I could feel my fillings buzzing in my teeth. I could smell the ozone” (Bryson 104). The images create a vivid picture of their danger and emphasize the importance of being prepared and aware of the potential hazards of extreme weather and environment.
Currently as we speak, Britain is fighting in a war. The British navy sent a number of ships to blockade the French from obtaining supplies in the United States, but some crewmembers of these ships deserted and sought protection with American authorities. The US navy decided to enlist these men, and so they associated themselves with the crew of the USS Chesapeake. On June 22, 1807, the British HMS Leopard prowled after the USS Chesapeake off the coast of Virginia. The captain of the Leopard then dispatched a letter insisting to explore the Chesapeake for British naval deserters, however the Chesapeake’s Commodore James Barron prohibited it.

Genetic variation consist of the differences between individuals. The variation among humans has led to the concepts of race and ethnicity, which are not interchangeable. For the term race, can be consider a subspecies—the differences or variation within the same specie (Stanford 118). Humans belong to the homo-sapiens specie, but have phenotype variability, which are traits influenced by the genotype. While ethnicity is the culture one is born in, for example, language or religion (“What is the difference between race and ethnicity?”).
The traditional Cuban family structure is patriarchal, a dominant male and a passive female is common, but mainly among older generations of family. The new family is more open to changes, education for all, especially women, was a big step in the participation of women in the workforce, gender equality, respect to marriage, divorce, household responsibilities, and decision-making. Cuban American women with acculturation were ready to join work outside the home and contribute, like men, to the social and economic growth of the family. Cubans, both on the island and Cuban Americans, the family, la familia, means support, strength, identity and heritage.
Although the storm is dangerous, nature does not mean to hurt Janie and Tea Cake, as it gives them multiple warnings. Several days before the storm, Janie “heard the snort of big animals. Once the muted voice of a panther. Going east and east” (155). Janie and Tea Cake, despite nature’s many attempts to warn and help them, decide to stay and wait it out, refusing to believe a storm will drive them out of their home.
An hour and a half had passed, and now the boat was swaying harder and harder from side to side. The black thunderous black clouds that had originally been seen on the horizon to the west had finally made its presence to the boat. The eyes on everyone started looking like they were in a drunk daze, because of the momentus rock. It only took a few minutes from the nice wave-pool type waves to transfer into what was now fifteen-foot waves and a downpour of large heavy stinging raindrops. Turmoil and regret as to why the captain had let us out entered my mind, even though I had
