When learning about The Enlightenment in class, I found many different aspects of this time period very intriguing. The various ideas being spread around by numerous individuals really caught my interest. So many people were questioning their faith and turning to science and other things besides religion. This time period for some reason reminded me slightly of our culture now. We as a culture have broken away from religion, mostly the younger generation. We try to find truth in other things such as science. As a generation we want proven truths that we can see the answers to. A lot of people have lost their faith in the 21st century which I have noticed through me peers. Most people find it a burden to go to church or any religious event. The …show more content…
I found it very similar to how a lot of my friends view religion. They believe in a God, but deny a lot of what is said in the Bible or don’t even want to learn anything about the Bible. I am not against this at all; I just find it very interesting to see this common occurrence within the people around me. Many of my friends tell me that they pray before bed and go to Church on Easter and Christmas. They do this because some of them feel obligated and some just want to believe, but do not want to invest any time into going to services or reading more into the Bible. Going back to The Enlightenment, I also found the bringing of religion to America very refreshing in a sense that new ideas and thoughts could be discovered. So many different religions came to America, which allowed for different ways of thinking. I liked the idea of Pennsylvania being a place of religious tolerance. America is a place where people can believe in whatever they want and do not have to conform to one religion. I love that this is the way America was made because it gives freedom of religion to anyone living
