The epigraphs used by Jon Krakauer in the novel, Into the Wild, each have a different purpose and contribution to their respective chapter. While some of them directly came from Chris McCandless's journals, others were the highlighted parts from the novels he read during his epic expedition into the wilderness. There were also some epigraphs that merely served as counter-examples to the chapter's central theme which helped build a relationship between the two.
