1888 Whitechapel, London, England. Charles Cross walked to his job as a delivery driver at 3:30 A.M. As he turned down Buck’s Row, he noticed a dark bundle on the opposite side of the street. As he went to inspect it, he realized that it was the cold, stiff body of a woman. He thought she was either dead or drunk. As another man walked up to the site and saw what had happened, they both decided to tell the police as soon as they could. But what neither of them could see in the dark was that her throat had been slashed so ferociously that her head had nearly been severed from her body. To this day, no one knows who committed this murder and the four that followed it. Modern-day scientists and investigators have their theories of who the killer could be. H. Holmes graduated from medical school in 1884. Though the MOs of each of these killers are a little different, this might be because Holmes wanted to throw people off his trail. One more bit of evidence that supports this claim is the physical appearance of Jack the Ripper. Holmes fit the description that the Scotland Yard had of Jack the Ripper almost perfectly. Another piece of evidence that supports this assumption is the Dear Boss letter. The great-great-great-grandson of H. H. Holmes, Jeff Mudgett, inherited two diaries from his great-great-great-grandfather. After an expert handwriting analysis, it was determined that the writing from the Dear Boss letter was almost an exact match to the writing from H. H. Holmes diaries. There might also be evidence that puts Holmes in London at the time of the murders. “Mudgett also shows a letter written by his great-great-great grandfather with a mention of the London weather, illustrating the possible presence of Holmes in Britain during the same time period.” (Neumann University) After looking at the background of Jack the Ripper and H.
