Have you ever considered which type of life you would consider? A life where you take risks or a life where you are taking it safe? Many people pursue security and attempt to live a typical life without succeeding or failing. In the novel, The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls did not want to take it on the safe side, she wanted to explore and take risks. Walls did not care about living a harmless life, her main goal was to do something extraordinary and live a wild and crazy life where she is able to make her own choices. The absence of freedom creates a society that is easily controlled. It’s similar to communism or a totalitarianism. Without freedom, our very nation would have not come into existence. Some people would say that the failures of freedom overshadow its successes, but the United States is built around those successes. Security gives you a path to take, and if you take that trail, it will lead to a complacent life. Freedom gives the capability to imagine and create anything your heart yearns. A saying by Anthony Robbins says, “If you do what you've always done, you will get what you've always gotten” (Robbins). You will never be unique if you follow the crowd. This world is changing by the people who take risks to change and shape it. The world is always altering every day, whether it’s a big or small change, so why shouldn’t you? Living in your own comfort zone might be great for a certain period of time, but as time goes one, you would want to have freedom because of all of the feeling and excitement that comes with it. Jeanette Walls has shown us that through her memoir. Many of her colleagues believed that she wasn’t going to make it in life. She took numerous risks and received a college degree from an Ivy League School to prove to herself and others that people do not need to live in protected place to survive. Security would only tell you the risk involved, not the potential outcome. Many people said that if you take risks in your life, you might experience danger or a broken leg. Countless people are opposed to freedom, but they cannot fathom the possible outcome from its restriction. Look passed the danger and believe that you have the mind to accomplish anything that is thrown at you. Failure should only motivate you to try even harder. You can go over any obstacle if you put your mind to it. This has been shown through the readers by Walls’ book. Anything is possible if you persist
