Plato, the author of “The Allegory of the Cave”, was a Greek philosopher who used the power of dialogue in order to more effectively communicate his philosophy. [3] Plato firmly believed in the pursuit of enlightenment of the soul being of upmost importance; therefore, the need for enlightenment of the soul through knowledge supersedes that of learning basic skills.
