Angola Prison
The Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola is the largest prison in America. The Angola prison consists of six different complexes, and 1,800 workers making sure the prison functions properly. Moreover, a small town called the Beeline was built around the prisons perimeter for extra security. The Farm: Life inside Angola Prison states that 200 employers’ families are risings their children’s in Beeline. The warden of the prison stated that most of the inmates that are incarcerated in Angola are most likely to die there. Most of the inmates that are in the Angola Prison are African Americans. The majority of the inmates that are housed in Angola Prison have a very low opportunity to be released on parole. For instance, Benson Simmons he is fourth five years old, and he has been charged with aggravated rape with a sentence of 100 years. However, Simmons claims that he is innocent and has been fighting his case for twenty years. Also, he states that when the officers asked one the victims if she could identify the person if she was him again, and she said no because all niggers look alike. Also, in the victims’ statement they stated that they wanted someone to take the charge for this issue. Even tough, Simmons only had a six-grade education and no money to hire an attorney was forced to represent himself against the parole board. After Simmons, had petitioned twelve different courts in a period of seventeen-year period. Simmons was finally provided with the information that the court claimed that they have lost it back in 1977. For the reason that his attorney never sought discovery and he was not provided with one neither. The jury has never reviewed this exculpatory evidence, that proves Benson Simmons innocence of the aggravated rape charge. Finally, Simmons was granted with his first parole hearing in twenty years.
