In the article, “Pop Culture’s Undying Edgar Allen Poe Obsession” we learn about the influence that Poe has on our culture over 100 years after his death. Edgar Allen Poe was famous for writing bone chilling horror stories like The Raven and The Tell Tale Heart. These stories have been made into movies, computer games, and even cartoons. One cartoon version of The Tell Tale Heart was so disturbing when it was made in 1953 it was given an X rating although it did earn an Oscar nomination. Poe’s works are still influential but not always faithful adaptations.

She first started her label Camilla in 2004 and she quickly gained recognition for her bold prints and vibrant colors. Her designs have been worn by people such as Oprah Winfrey and Beyoncé. Her brand is now sold all around the world and has now also started selling other things such as accessories, homeware and ready to wear instead of just kaftans.
The Into the Light exhibit, located in the Thomas Center, displays a wide array of Virginia Louise Leak’s artwork. Although Leak was diagnosed with a mental illness, she was still able to produce a lifetime of art. I believe her illness is what makes her art so extraordinary and relays a deeper message than what it appears to be on the surface. To me, if you truly desire to understand a work of art you first have to learn about the artist; therefore, before I even began observing the paintings and etchings I carefully read all of the plaques that gave detailed information about Leak’s life, history, and her works of art. Not all of Leak’s painting and etchings are on display for the public, but the artwork that is available to the public is truly astonishing.

Throughout his life, Poe had always lived through the most chaotic and evil of time. His parents died while he was 3 years old. After his parents died, he lived with another family member who never accepted him as their own son. Later on in life, Poe had served in the military and at that point he started writing poems.

Through these and many more, Poe has been using his writing style to immerse people into his stories and poems alike since 1839. However, Poe is only able to accomplish this through his unique writer’s style, particularly his forceful imagery and meaningful syntax.

At first look at this artwork, the the viewer’s attention is directed towards the man wearing the dark coat. The viewer also sees a women which could be seen as the man’s wife, daughter, or friend. As the viewer looks at the background of the painting they can see that these people are probably living on a farm. With this painting having many differents forms, the viewer gets to see a piece of art that seems convincingly real.
