She was diagnosed with cancer and she started going to a group called the Cancer Kids Support Group. A young man named Augustus Waters changed Hazel’s life forever. The Puritans would ban the novel The Fault in our Stars due to, the characters living sinful lives, women having authoritative positions and they didn’t wear plain clothing. The Puritans would oppose the book, The Fault in our Stars because of them living sinful lives. There was a guy named Augustus Waters that went to the Cancer Kids Support Group, he started going there not long after Hazel did and they got to know each other. There was one day, that Augustus was talking to Hazel and pulled out a cigarette and put it in his mouth. Hazel yelled out him because she thought he was going to smoke it, but he said, “They don’t kill you unless you light them and I’ve never lit one. It’s a metaphor, see: You put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don’t give it the power to do the killing.” Hazel just looked at him as if he was crazy. Augustus never lit the cigarette, but used it as a metaphor to show that if you don’t start or ignite it then it can’t hurt you at all. …show more content…

In the novel, Hazel told Augustus what he shouldn’t be doing and whether it was okay and safe to do. Hazel looked out for Augustus and didn’t want him to get hurt or more sick than he is right now. Augustus also looked out for Hazel as well. They both took care of each other and Hazel told him what he was allowed to do. Hazel yelled at Augustus for putting the cigarette in his mouth.
