Question Six There are many signs that the ferryman experienced internal conflict in this story. As displayed by the artist, the ferryman seems to be smiling in frame ten, as if he was happy to help the first creature. This was most likely due to the first creature not looking menacing, acting very friendly, and it not showing any signs of suspicion. This, being the last time in the story the ferryman smiles, does not introduce any internal conflict. When the ferryman asks what is in the bag of the second creature and receives the response, "Rabbits," he is faced with the choice to be rude, turn around, and refuse to take the creature across the river or to continue and say nothing of it. This may lead the reader to dislike or approve of the ferryman's decision depending on their own standing on the topic. The narrator appears to have another internal conflict when the third and forth creatures approach. These creatures are much larger than the previous ones and, subsequently, more intimidating. Though the ferryman man not know what these creatures are doing with the friends in the bags, it doesn't seem that he has much of a choice wether or not to take these creatures across the river or not. If he does, he will receive a small payment, but if he doesn't, he may be hurt by these large creatures, have his boat stolen, or even stuffed in a bag himself. When it comes down to it, the narrator doesn't really have much of a choice to take these creatures across the river or not. As stated by the third creature, "…Think your little boat… [new speech bubble] could fit me?" Here, the narrator was eating some food when he was interrupted by the requests of the third creature. He could finish his food and take the creature across later, which would be more preferable for him, but what would happen
