What is love without trust, or hard decisions? America shows us that we have to make difficult decisions for love in the book ‘The Elite’ by Kiera Cass when she has to choose between Aspen or Maxon (who’s a prince). In this book, she has to choose who she really loves, and who she’s going to choose, which could be the hardest decision of her life. On the other hand, Cassie shows that the most important thing in love is trust, and without trust, it can’t be real. In the book ‘The Fifth Wave’ by Rick Yancey. She shows us this by showing that even though she had strong feelings for Evan, she still couldn’t trust him because of the rule created by the fourth wave -trust no one-. It shows that the most important thing in love is trust, and without trust, it can’t be real. In the book ‘The Fifth Wave’, Cassie is in love with a boy named Evan that she doesn’t know if she can trust because, in the five waves, the ‘Others’ (aliens) came to Earth. By the fourth wave they had started coming to the Earth in the form of other humans, so humans used a rule, ‘don’t trust anyone’ to survive. But Cassie is breaking that ‘rule’ to be with Evan! She’s doing it for love, but now she needs to realize that trust plays a huge role in a relationship/ love. For example on page 280, Cassie says, “‘We have to trust each other,” I whisper. “Don’t we?” -- “Yes,” he says, moving toward me now. “We do.” -- “But how… how do you make yourself trust someone?” I say. He’s beside me now. He doesn’t reach for the gun. He’s reaching for me with his eyes. And I want him to catch me before I fall too far away from the Evan-I-thought-I-knew, who saved me to save himself from falling.” This is showing that to love someone you need trust because as Cassie was holding the weapon to Evan, she realized that she couldn’t trust him, but her feelings for him were so strong she resisted the urge to shoot him and instead asked him how she could make herself trust someone. She’s realizing that to survive she needs trust, but how can she trust him. He broke her, he’s breaking her. …show more content…

Both books teach us that there are many ups and downs, and challenges in love. For example in ‘The Elite’, America got in trouble, and was about to get kicked out, and probably never see Maxon’s face again, so she used her time with him wisely. She made a decision to stay with him, instead of leaving him to show his love for him. On page 298 it states, “I looked up at his face, unsure of how many more of his smiles I’d have. Maxon’s fingers swept away the tears from my cheeks, and he sat there gazing into my eyes. I did the same to him, wanting to remember this so badly.” This is showing that she made a decision to stay with him instead of leaving and showing that she loves him. She knew that she was probably not going to see him ever again (because she was getting kicked out) so she took that time to her advantage to show that she cared for him. This is how ‘The Elite’ shows love. In the Elite In ‘The Fifth Wave’, it shows love in a similar way, for example on page 375 it states, “I stand up, and a weird thing happens: As I rise, Evan seems to shrink. “I’m going to get my little brother, and there's only one way I can do it.” He’s looking up at me, nodding. He has been inside me. There has been no place where he ended and I began. He knows what I’m going to say: Alone. It’s the last night I might ever see him, and it kills me to leave him like this”
