Jeffrey is struggling with deciding what classes he is interested in for the upcoming school year. He does not believe a class in the fine arts will help him in his future and provide him with the skills he needs to succeed. Similarly, he believes an arts class will not coincide with his plans for the future. Similar to Jeffrey, other students believe the arts are unimportant. Students do not comprehend how important the arts are in the future and how it can help them with other subjects as well. In the novel Dan Brown wrote called “The Da Vinci Code”, The Art Story Contributors who wrote the article “Symbolism”, and Bob Byrant who wrote “The Importance of a Fine Arts Education”, the importance of the arts are described. In, “The Importance of a Fine Arts Education”, it states the reasons a fine arts education is practical for everyone, no matter what major a person is debating about taking. “We need to offer more in-depth learning about the things that matter the most: order, integrity, thinking skills, a sense of wonder, truth, flexibility, fairness, dignity, contribution, justice, creativity and cooperation. The arts provide all of these” (Bryant, 13). Furthermore, in the novel “The Da Vinci Code” it shows the arts in jobs not directly related to the fine arts. “‘Yes. It’s called a cryptex. According to my grandfather, the blueprints come from one of Da Vinci’s secret diaries.’” In the article, “Symbolism” it says, “What unites the various artists and styles associated with Symbolism is the emphasis on emotions, feelings, ideas, and subjectivity rather than realism. Their works are personal and express their own ideologies, particularly the belief in the artist 's power to reveal truth,” (The Art Story Contributors) Feelings are involved with the arts, and fine art classes will help develop creativity and individuality in a person.
