Personality: Jim’s personality can be analyzed using the Five Factor Model. The Five Factor Model characterizes people as having high or low scores of openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism (Spielman, 2017). Jim displays high openness when dealing with feelings and ideas. After Claudia tells Jim that she believes he will not like her because of her issues, he tells that he does not care and is willing to help her work out her issues. Also, at the end of the movie, he decides to not arrest Donnie because he knows Donnie feels bad about what he did and does not pose a danger to society. Individuals with high agreeableness are “helpful, trusting, and empathetic” (Spielman, 2017). Jim is a police officer and is trusted to protect and serve his community. Also, as previously stated, Jimmy understands the nervousness that Claudia feels about entering a relationship and his ready to help her resolve her problems. Because Jim is a police officer, he should and does exhibit low neuroticism. As Spielman (2017) states, neuroticism is the “tendency toward unstable emotions.” As a police officer, Jim is entrusted with the lives of his community. As an armed man, he would pose a danger to society if did have neurotic behavior. Thankfully, though, Jim has low neuroticism and is a calm person. As previously stated, he kept his cool when dealing with the verbally hostile woman with a dead body in her closet. Had he not kept his cool, problems could have arisen for the woman, him, the police department that he represents, and society. Because Jim displays high such high marks of the good factors of the Five Factor Model and low marks of the bad factor of the Five Factor Model, he makes a good police officer and a great potential
