The Flick, by Annie Baker, was production at Whitcomb Lee Conservatory, directed by Joel Egger. The name of the playwright is “Playwrights Horizons, Inc., New York City, commissioned and produced the Word Premiers of “The Flick”. This play is about three employees, Sam, Rose and the new employee Avery, who are underpaid and work in a movie theater. In the beginning of the play, Sam is training Avery then Avery finds out about the dinner money and he did not want any part in that. The purpose of The Flick is to tell a story about how movie theaters were before they became more modern. For the most part the play did follow all of the elements of production and ran smoothly and efficiently. The pace of The Flick was much different than the first play because of the awkward pauses and the time in between those pauces. The staging for this play was an old movie theatre and they did incorporate the old movie theater chairs which was interesting. The staging was well put together. The actors were consistent and very easy to follow and their voices were clear and audible. The actors were easy to hear and understand. The physicalization was appropriate and the actor were interesting to watch and follow. This play did not have an ensemble, but the actors worked well together which made the play interesting to watch. The actress playing Rose did a good job with portraying the “bad girl” attitude, Sam’s character was believable and made the audience laugh. Jimmy Nguyen who played Avery did an amazing job with making the audience feel what his character was feeling. All of the actors did a great job, the audience could hear every word as well as feel what the characters were
