The Ford Pinto case may have been considered one of the most irresponsible and worst U.S. corporate action crimes regarding engineering ethics. It started in May of 1972 when an owner and passenger of a 1972 Ford Pinto was involved in a fiery car accident that resulted in major injuries and death. There were multiple similar accidents involving the same model, 1972 Ford Pinto. The confirmed causes of these accidents were all linked to a flawed engineering design and positioning of the fuel tank within the vehicle, that if impacted from behind at speeds of at least 25 miles per hour, can rupture and cause fire or explosion to the vehicle.
