Bipolar disorder is also known as manic depression. This is a mental disorder where an individual has severe "high" and "lows". Highs are when the individual has mania. Mania is where an unusually irritable mood is present. In addition individuals with mania present feel as if they may accomplish anything. Lows are also known as depression, one individual feels as if they have overwhelming sadness. These periods vary from person to person and they can be months and they can be days. Bipolar disorder has four major categories; bipolar I, bipolar II, cyclothymic disorder, and bipolar disorder due to other medical issues. Although there are different names for depression it is the same concept. This concept is feeling sad and depressed for days, even weeks on end. But not just feeling sad, it is a sense of hopelessness, lack of energy, and finding no joy in things that were fun to the person in the past. Depression like many other disorders are different for each human being. There are cases of depression where one may not seem depressed, they may just seem unmotivated for anything. Researchers still do not know why depression grows in people, it just appears and it affects everyone.
