The French and Indian War, Pontiac’s Rebellion, & the Royal Proclamation of 1763. Native Americans, the French, and the British all have something in common; they are each responsible for what occurred during the 18th Century in North America. Ever since initial colonial contact in North America, interests in discovering this land and claiming territories as their own would span over centuries. Over the span of this time, numerous events had impacted several Native American tribes, as well as the British and French empires. Among the most significant of these events would be those which occurred in the 18th Century. However, either for the sake of convenience or not wanting to address the revolt for what it is, the British labeled it as Pontiac’s Rebellion2. With this sudden revolt, several different notable events occurred during the revolt’s duration. Although this rebellion originated in the Great Lakes region, it grew as fast west to the Illinois Country and as far east to western Virginia3. Not much was known regarding how active of a role Pontiac had in this rebellion, although he was indeed known to have led most of the assault on Fort Detroit2. In addition to the besieging of Fort Detroit, several British forts were overrun, resulting in a magnitude of damage and death to the forts themselves, as well as the surrounding areas. It was a known tactic for the Native Americans to, when besieging forts, to cut off the surrounding area to prevent British communication and reinforcements3. On top of that, the Native Americans had reliable allies in the French empire, who they were allied with during the French and Indian War.
