Going from surviving to thriving

In the fictional story The Game by Monica Hughes and the fictional movie The Hunger Games by Suzzane Collins both main characters go on epic journeys using innovation, tenacity, and creativity to go from surviving to thriving. Tenacity is a form of determination. Tenacity was a much needed skill in both The Game and The Hunger Games in order for the characters to survive. On page 22 in the game it says “That lock on the door is a Mickey Mouser.” This shows the groups will to survive on this distant planet. I know this because instead of letting their new house be open, they lock it just in case someone finds them and attempts to kill them. This allows for the group to thrive on this new planet. Tenacity was strongly shown in the movie when Katniss decided to tie herself onto the tree she was resting on. This is tenacity because Katniss was determined to survive and wait out the people trying to kill her without falling off the tree while she slept. Innovation was used in the novel on page 132 when it says “It rained most of the nights so we spent our time hunting and preparing fish.” This shows that the group innovated the fishing because they did not possess the materials needed to craft one themselves. So instead of giving up the group innovated the fishing pole, but instead of string they decided to use hair. This idea allowed the group to haves lots of food for days on end. Innovation in The Hunger Games was strongly used when Katniss and Peeta decided to kill themselves at the same time. This was innovation because doing this allowed for both of them to win instead of one of them winning. Innovation is needed to thrive because people would all be dead if we didn’t advance our ideas and technologies to help us thrive in life and get things done
