Residential facilities and Assisted Living communities have blossomed into a massive businesses, it is the fastest growing living option for seniors compared to the nursing home. Facilities such as these provides a wide range of services and it is the senior housing solution for adults who can live independently, but also require some assistance (Gleckman, H., 2014). The century of the baby boomers is here, however is the nation prepared? The answer is a hefty “no.” The geriatric community appears to have been a forgotten body of people in which the nation has not planned their future. The desire for many seniors as they age is to have housing, food, and clothing and to be in good health. For people to be at their best selves, they have to have some self-worth. Yet in order to achieve this self-worth a person has to master Maslow’¬¬¬¬s theory which states a person’s potential cannot be obtained without first their needs such as psychological, safety, love/belongings self-esteem and then self-actualization being met or to be in good health and live successfully (Chapman, Al., 1995-2014). For individuals who do not meet the income guidelines they are limited as to where they can stay, as well as what help they would receive for their day to day care. What is found to be the obstacle is seniors are unable to pay for services for their day to day needs which would include assistance with their activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, medication management and food preparation (National Center for Assisted Living, 2015).
