The Getaway to Lake Isle of Innisfree Sometimes the weight of civilization can be overwhelming. The fast pace and constant stress of our daily lives is enough to make an individual dream of escaping to a more simple life. For many people in society, this place is found among nature. There, they can connect to themselves and escape the hardships of life around them. In The Lake Isles of Innisfree by William Butler Yeats, the author suggest the idea that retaining a strong connection with nature can rejuvenate one's vitality. Maintaining this strong connection with nature can create a more well-balanced, stress-free lifestyle. Because of this, finding a quiet place to rejuvenate myself was most physically impossible. In grade 5, my grade went on a weekend sleep-away trip to camp Kiwanis, a camp just outside of the city. We played this game called The animal game where everyone was assigned a specific spot on the animal chain and based on your level (carnivore, herbivore, etc) your chances of survival were limited. It was almost like a big game of tag, but played in the forest. Getting lost in the damp canopy of these pine trees fascinated me. The further I went, the more noise was shut out until it was just me and the silent sounds of nature. This was the first time I truly connected with myself and could feel everything around me. I was so busy focusing all my attention on the lifestyle of the city that I never noticed the beauty around me. This forest let my thoughts wander, untangling the mess in my mind, letting me find myself. In times of hardcore stress I close my eyes and think back to that first moment of awe, calming me down. To this day, I find every opportunity I can get to escape back to the wonders of the forest, to lose myself once again and recollect the pure me, much like Yeats dreams
