Elaborating more on Fate, it is associated with the pursuit of finding and pursuing your path in life. The story portrays that you don't always have to follow the path fate has already paved for you. Mina, the protagonist of the story, makes her own Fate as the one already set for her goes against the things that she values and desires the most. The theme Soul-Searching Quest relates to the journey Shin had to go through to find his lost soul. It was revealed that Shin was the past Sea God who gave away his soul to save the emperor. Mina, finds a pebble with a Lotus carved in its center and gives it to Shin, proclaiming it can be his new soul. This opens the door for a deeper connection between the two characters emotionally and romantically. Family plays a big role in Mina's journey in the Spiritual Realm. She made her family as her driving force and inspiration to go on and find a way to go home. Unbeknownst to her, family is also present in the Spiritual Realm. Mask, Dai, and baby Miki are her ancestors who reside in the Spiritual Realm and are the ones who guide and protect her during her time there. In the end, she is united with her family and is lovingly taken care of on the other side. Mina and Shin's journey symbolizes The Power of Love. The significance of this momentous declaration comes from battling the high mountains of doubt and the manacles of fate's unfortunate plans. It not only hit the emotional appeal I was looking for, it was also equipped with an excellent plot and an array of psychologically intriguing characters. The life lessons that I learned from this book are extremely similar to the lessons my grandmother and older sister gave me. I heartily enjoy their relationship with each other as it reminds me of my own. My heart aches everytime Mina recalls the memories she has with the people that she loves as they are the gems in the pendant of her necklace; the most valuable people. I thoroughly enjoy the romantical slow-burn that happened between Mina and Shin as they were such an addicting couple. I enjoyed Shin's healthy and understandable reactions regarding Mina's choices in her journey. But most of all, I absolutely love the nostalgic feel of the storyline. As I try to recall the little bits and pieces that make up the Lit Student inside of me, I can see that the author, Axie Oh has taken inspiration from more modern tales such as Spirited Away. The themes of dragons and the incorporation of the Spiritual Realm in the novel reminds me of this global bestseller. The only better thing is the thrilling romance it contains. To sum it all up, I am grateful for the people who recommended this book to me as I can proudly say, it has taken the No. 1 spot in my favorite books list!
