The movies Gone Girl and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, both directed by David Fincher, are films starring vengeful females. The films both feature women who have been taken advantage of, mostly by men and have decided to stand up for themselves and end the mistreatment. Given that both films were directed by the same person, they feature many of the same technical components, such as the use of a static camera throughout the films (Dargis, 2014). Although, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a remake of a Swedish film it still features the same elements that make Lisbeth Salander, played by Rooney Mara, an admired but also slightly feared character. Gone Girl is a 2014 thriller directed by David Fincher based off of a book. Nick Dunne, Ben Affleck, reports his wife missing on the morning of their fifth anniversary. Quickly, suspicion turns on him by the police and the public because of Nick’s lack of emotion and because it is discovered that she was pregnant. The movie alternates between Amy’s journal entries, which was found in Nick’s dad’s house in the fire place, and present day. Amy and Nick moved to his home state of Missouri after they both lost their jobs and Nick’s mother is diagnosed with cancer. Moving to Missouri leaves Amy isolated and with no job or children to keep her entertained. However, one-night Amy tries to surprise Nick and discovers him with another woman kissing her outside the bar that Amy bought for him. Feeling betrayed after she has given up her New York life for Nick and still being cheated on, she devises a plan to make him pay, faking her murder.
