Sometimes people change, and sometimes it’s a little change and other times it’s a big change. In the book, The Giver by Lois Lowry, Jones was just a regular eleven in his community, and he would never break the rules until he had become the receiver. On page 111 it states in the text, “He was not yet qualified to be a Giver himself; nor had gabriel been selected to be a receiver. That he had this power frightened him. He decided to not tell.”
Surely, you have encountered some form of suffering and/or evil during your time on this earth. Did this encounter happen to strengthen you? Perhaps it even created beauty; out of this seemingly, senseless suffering? Maybe not all suffering and evil is senseless…maybe so? Annie Dillard’s shot at the problem of evil and suffering in “Holy the Firm” is the built by the concept of beautiful suffering.

The dystopian novels Gone by Michael Grant and The Giver by Luis Lowry are the best novels to depict a dystopian society. Due to the use of negative social trends taken to nightmarish extremes, advanced technology and cancellation of individuality. One of the dystopian characteristics in both of the novels would be advanced technology, advanced technology is shown in The Giver when "Very carefully he inserted the needle into the bottle and began to fill the syringe with a clear liquid" (Lowry 186). This text shows advanced technology is several different ways the text shows it because this clear liquid that kills the person that the liquid is inserted in. This shows advanced technology because it is a liquid that kills a person
When I was eight-year-olds, I was always told to read a book by my teachers and peers and I absolutely loathed it. One day I was handed an assignment, we were set off to check out a book from the library to read during reading time, which during this time I dreaded. After what seemed like hours, I decided on a Junie B. Jones book that caught my eye. After a brief reading session of one hour, when I finished the small chapter book, at once I decided to check out another one of the books in the series which lead to another one and so on. On average I devote about twenty hours of my time a week reading books.
This knowledge of pain changed Jonas's likes because when he was told that his training would include pain, he was not so sure that he wanted to receive memories. I wish we still had that."(158). Ths memory in particular is one that Jonas cherishes.
Welcome back to today's Timeless Tales Episode on ABC, today we are going to be going into depth on the outstanding novel written by S.E Hinton, “The Outsiders”. We are investigating how the different qualities of the timeless tale contribute to its literary value, and finding out what exactly makes "The Outsiders” timeless. Susan Eloise Hinton, who was born in the 1950s, describes her hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, as "a pleasant place to live if you don't want to do anything." She started writing the novel "The Outsiders" when she was fifteen, inspired by how she felt about the social inequalities in her high school and the lack of realistic fiction for teenage readers. A story of class conflict between the Socs, a privileged rich group of

When reading the poem, “The Gift,” by Li-Young Lee, it can be interpreted many different ways. Upon initial reading, I took the poem very literal, but then I thought deeper and dug beneath the surface to realize the true meaning as to what Li-Young Lee was trying to say. As the author is removing a splinter from his wife 's hand, he has a flashback from the time when he was seven and his father removes a metal splinter from his palm. Although he was probably terrified at first, his father distracted him by reciting a tale. Lee mentions in the poem that he does not remember what the tale was about, but only that his father 's voice was “a well of dark water” and his hands were “two measures of tenderness.”
Child abuse is a topic that is found in the general population, but is an underestimated problem. Abuse is evident both physically, psychologically, sexually, or even in the form of neglect. For example, in the memoir A Child Called "It", David Pelzer’s experiences of abuse by his mother are shared as well as his road to help. Although the majority of his experiences are physical, the emotional effects of abuse he faces are evident as he views himself in a way she has taught him too, and slowly loses hope and faith of a future or of being loved by anyone. There are many ways to help suffering children in the world, and some of it can even be done by starting at home.

Conflict is a prolonged struggle that only a few choose to overcome and those that choose to resolve it succeed for the long haul. The author of “The Odyssey” skillfully brings about many different adventures, that are simply magnified real world problems. As he manipulates mythical creatures and gods to his liking, the author exhibits Odysseus’ astonishing and breathtaking journey to his home in Ithaca. In the epic poem, “The Odyssey,” Homer has the protagonist, Odysseus, face many different internal and external conflicts that are overcome because of the specific character traits that are established through the series of stories demonstrated in this poem. Homer introduces Odysseus to the reader as a melancholy, yet patient hero, who longs
