Chapters 19-23 of “The Giver” by Lowis Lowry takes us through the unpredictable events. We find what Jonas did after he found the dark truth about the so-called release. Many questions arise throughout the chapters. For instance, where does the dead body go after going into the chute? Does it reach “elsewhere”? The Committee of Elders keeps the truth of release like a closely guarded secret. If no one has feelings and emotions then, why are the Committee of Elders keeping a secret? Do they feel that revealing the truth will harm the “utopian” society? One of the questions that sadly can not be answered is, did Jonas and Gabriel live after seeing the house at the bottom of the snowy hill? One of the most CONSPICUOUS questions is shown in a quote as stated, “We 're almost there, Gabriel," he whispered, feeling quite certain without knowing why. "I remember this place, Gabe." And it was true. But it was not a grasping of a thin and burdensome recollection; this was different. This was something that he could keep. It was a memory of his own”( Lowry 178). The question that originates is, is Jonas connected to this place? What does it mean when it states, “It was memory of his own”(Lowry 178). This quote AUGMENTS my curiosity on the future of Jonas. Further, what will happen to the community when the Giver is released and Jonas is “elsewhere”? Will the government and Committee of Elders stop their effort for making a utopian society?
