The beauty of dystopian is that it lets us vicariously experience future worlds but we still have the power to change our own. In the novel The Giver, by Lois Lowry, the society is living in a dystopian world. A Utopian is a perfect world that is where you have everything you want and everyone is happy, no one is suffering. A Dystopia is a non-perfect world where you have no freedom and you're controlled. The Giver represents a Dystopian society that has some similarities and more differences when compared to modern society. This shows the differences of Dystopia and modern society. There are some similarities to modern society and the Giver’s Dystopia. There are some similarities if kids still go to school. This shows that the Giver still has school like in our world. On page 16 it says “He remembered his mother taking the new child, his sister, into her arms, while the document was read to the assembled family units.” This is similar to our world. Another similarity is Jonas still has a family routine like modern day societies. For example on page 2 it states how Jona’s parents were both at work, and his little sister was at the childcare center where she spent her after school hours.
