‘The Glass Castle’ is a book by Jeannette Walls. This book is about the life of the walls family and their happy moments, sad moments, inspirational moments, time being spent together as a family and times when each of them wanted to be completely alone in their own world. This book is about a family loving each other, but at the same time hating each other.Wanting to be together as much as possible, but at the same time wanting to run away screaming. Wanting no harm to come their way, but at the same time welcoming it in through the front door. This family went through a lot of hard times. One minute they want to be a loving family, the next minute they mad at each other for doing something that they did not approve of. Like when one day Mr Walls came home drunk. He had a rampage and messed up the house, yelled at his kids and had a fight with his wife. She tried to protect herself from him by using a knife, but instead he ended up grabbing one to. He wrestled her and pinned her hands above her head and said “Rose Mary, your one h*ll of a woman.” Then Mrs Walls told him he was a stinking rotten drunk. Mr Walls reply was “Yeah, but you love this old drunk, dont you?”(pg 122.) Mrs Walls said no at first. Mr Walls kept asking until she said yes. The fight vanished as if it never happened. Like when Mr and Mrs Walls moved to New York so they could see their kids and to get out of welch. One day in january it got really cold. At the time the walls parents was living on the streets. Ms Jeannette tried to tell her mother to take care of children or the elderly to sleep under a roof or to sell her indian jewelry. But she said no to both options and said “Things usually work out in the end.” Jeannette asked “What if they dont?” Then her mom said “That just means you havent came to the end yet.” This is a good example when the walls parents said something normal in front of their children. The children try to help their parents from getting off the streets. But their parents refused to accept their help. They told them that they could handle themselves.
