The idea between the two has to be identical due the mutual topic. However, The movie does have some subtle differences but the movie script is almost identical to that of the book. Starting with the setting, it is very much similar in the movie and play both. It mainly takes place in the apartment of Wingsfield and occasionally outside when Tom either goes to the fire escape to smoke or leave to the movies. All the characters also remain the same consisting of only Amanda Wingfield, her children Tom and Laura, and Jim O’Connor the gentleman caller. Music and light can set a tone that’s melancholy, or humorous, contrasting with the moment, without these elements all movies would be the same and very unrealistic. While setting the mood it is essential to use proper lighting and sounds, one needs to be clear about exactly which mood they’re after: sunny, dreamy, macho, scary or any of a score of other emotional states. For instance, midnight lighting is equally dark, blue and contrasty for both strolling lovers and lurking vampires using lighting all these moods can be achieved. For example if it’s bright and sunny that represents happiness, if it’s dark with candles as the source of light that represents a romantic mood.

There are a few differences that are evident about Laura between the play and the movie. Laura had a brace on her leg during high school because of a disability but the brace was no longer on during the movie. In the movie Laura seemed like a normal person and you would probably not even be able to tell there was anything wrong with her had it not been for her family’s exaggeration of the disability.
