The Glass Menagerie is a play that piques our curiosity on the story of the Wingfield family which includes, Tom, his sister Laura, and his mother Amanda. In the later scenes of the play, we are introduced to Jim O’Connor, who is often referred to by Amanda Wingfield as a gentleman caller and also a friend of Tom. The story primarily takes place in the Wingfield’s home, which is an apartment in St.Louis as Tom narrates his memories during WWI. I really enjoyed reading through your response. I feel that your answers are clear and concise, which is something I struggled with in my post. I wanted to tell the entire story, but felt I couldn't properly provide the required responses without explaining almost everything in the play. I felt you did a great job in finding the theme of the play and I agree with your view on thinking the play being based on family struggles but turning into a deeper meaning than what was shown.
In response to your horizontal axis, I completely missed the importance of the broken glass and I'm glad I was able to have a better understanding from your post. The broken glass I believe ties in with the music as well since the music plays a beautiful yet sad tone in the story. She had worked so hard on her glass menagerie and in an instant it was shattered and Laura was still okay.
