Nowadays, the most of the world’s population live under the conditions of democracy. During the 20th century democracy became the most prevalent political regime. Some call this phenomenon “the Golden age of democracy”. The question is what is the catalyst for this explosive growth of democratic republics? In this essay, I will analyze how globalization is connected with the spread of democracy around the world. Also, I will try to give certain examples of this process. First, I would like to clarify the concepts of democracy and democratization. Globalization reconstructs the geopolitical space, destroying the Westphalian, or state-centered model of the world, according to which the state is the main and virtually the only actor in geopolitics, and territorial independence, the formal equality of states, non-interference in the internal affairs of other recognized states and state consent as the basis of international legal obligations were the fundamental principles of the international community. It breaks the closed nature of social and political entities. Isolationist position in the modern world is not only impossible, it is absolutely perspectiveless. To be closed from the outside world, ignoring its changes, is a voluntary transition to the rank of outsiders and outcasts of world politics civilization.
