The Golden Ratio We live in a world that is based on numbers, but there is a special number that has captivated humanity throughout history. For centuries, this number has received numerous denominations such as Divine Ratio, Phi, Golden Number, Golden Section, 휙 or better known as the Golden Ratio. The golden number, which is represented by the Greek letter Φ (phi), is related to incredible numerical properties, but at the same time, it has unsuspected connections between nature and human creations. The golden ratio has the ability to generate figures of great beauty and incredible properties, such as rectangular polygons on whose sides maintain the divine proportion. We find everyday objects with these polygons, like credit cards that are …show more content…

Gerald Buckberg, a cardiothoracic surgeon, affirms that “the heart is a helical structure which is mathematically approximated by the Golden Ratio (qtd in Chan and Chang 2). In the same way, scientists have found that the proportion of the human hand is related to the golden ratio (Chan and Chang 3). Chan and Chang say, “In the hand, the ratio of the middle to distal phalanx (1.5), followed by the ratio of the proximal to middle phalanx (1.67) would approach the Golden Ratio (1.618) (3). Therefore, the golden ratio plays an important role in the development of the heart and hand. In the article research, “The Golden Ratio Optimizes Cardio melic Form and Function” Chan and Chang contend that “Notably, both cardiac structure as well as hand proportion has been linked with Fibonacci Series and the associated Golden Ratio- the number 1.618… that has been postulated to be related to form and functional optimization” (2). In other words, the golden ratio plays a very important role in the development and function of the heart. Likewise, the divine proportion can be found in the human face. In the article, “An In-depth Investigation of the Divine Ratio” Fett claims that “The human head forms a Golden Rectangle with the eyes at the midpoint. The mouth and nose can each be placed at Golden Sections of the distance between the eyes and the …show more content…

No matter what direction we take, it will always be there from distant galaxies to the structure of our DNA. This is number with peculiar properties that arouses the interest of scientists to deepen the investigation of this number. As we observed, researchers have found the golden ratio in the body of the human being and in the field of the arts. However, there is still a long way to investigate this number with intrinsic properties and that it has amazed many brilliant minds. The golden ratio that reflects harmony, beauty and perfect functionality could be investigated more deeply to understand the close relationship that this number has with us and everything that surrounds
