JESUS AS DEITY

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” Oh Lord, forgive us for taking your deity for granted. The Gospel of John, is perhaps the most palpable Gospel declaration of our Lord Jesus Christ scribed through the hand of the disciple He loved. A. W. Tozer once said, “All through His ministry, Jesus was God acting like God. He deliberately crossed the mysterious gulf between God and not God. He took upon Him the form of a man to become flesh, and dwelt among us. Even while hanging on the cross, Christ did not leave the bosom of the Father.” The presence of Jesus was so important to John, that he humbly shifts the spotlight from his ministry to the Lamb of God, “Look! “John speaks of the “Father” more than 120 times, we see that he has a strong interest in the deity. When he speaks of “God” John almost invariably means the Father, but we should notice that he includes the words of Thomas to the risen Jesus, “My Lord and my God!” Apart from Jesus it is impossible to know what God is like. To know Jesus Christ is to know God. There is no knowledge of God without the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.” Through the Word we find truth as we study the life of Jesus Christ.
