Jacob Lawrence painted the Migration Series in 1941 during the time of the Great Migration in America. Lawrence and others, such as Langston Hughes, have been one of the most prominent artists that portrayed the social commentary of African Americans in the United States during the early 1900s. While watching Basquiat, it was fairly difficult to put into words what the genera of the film was. It wasn’t a biography or a documentary, but it also used many facts about Jean Michel’s life. After some deliberation, I would call it a biographical narrative. It tells the story of Basquiat, which is the biographical component, but it also displays that information as more of a story than a biography. This seems like a completely fair interpretation and I am sure Julian Schnabel would agree with my description.

He was very smart and a great drawer at a very young age, he was also self-taught, which shows his education and passion for his artwork. He dropped out of school and to make means meet he sold lot of his artwork on the streets.
When one reads Les Miserables it may be assumed that Jean Valjean and Javert are opposites, but upon closer consideration, their similarities are more numerous than a first glance lets on. To begin, they are both men and will therefore both struggle with things of men, which gives immediate grounds for comparison. Jean Valjean and Javert are most similar in the way that both want to, and do, good - or at least what they envision as good. This essay will examine the historical accuracy of the film Les Miserables in terms of the social, economic and political conditions in French society post French Revolution. The film Les Miserables depicts an extremely interesting time in French history (from about 1815-1832.) Even though the story line does not depict every detail and event that occurred during the time period as well as the fact that some aspects are dramatized for entertainment purposes, the film effectively spans thirty years of economic, political and social aspects of French Society. However it also manages to bring in references to the past, the French Revolution (1789-1799) and the impact it had on the society portrayed in the film.

“The Devil” by Guy De Maupassant The short story is about Honore, the farmer, who is forced by the doctor to hire a washerwoman, La Rapet, to look after his ninety- two years old dying mother, Bontemps, while he reaps his corn. After the washerwoman examines the old lady, she predicts to stay with her for 2-3 days till she utters her last breath. She stipulates to get six francs from the farmer for her services and after moments of hesitation and arguing about the price, he grudgingly acquiesces.
