It was characterized by sharp increases in the rates of poverty and homelessness, mass unemployment, sharp declines in industrial production and prices, and banking panics. A pivotal moment in American history, the Great Depression had a profound effect on the lives of many people both at America and around the world. Following World War I, the Great Depression caused suffering, anguish, and pain in the lives of countless numbers of Americans.
