The Great Gatsby 1000 Years Analysis

The hit song “1000 Years” by Christina Perri, has many ties to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s character Jay Gatsby, from his novel The Great Gatsby. One of the strongest ties is clear when the speaker in “1000 years” says, “I have died everyday, waiting for you / Darling, don't be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years” (Perri 8-9). In the song, the speaker claims that she has loved the listener for a very long time and has been patiently waiting for that person’s arrival. Similarly, in The Great Gatsby, after Gatsby answers Daisy’s question of how long it has been since they have seen each other Nick says, “The automatic quality of Gatsby’s answer set us all back at least another minute” (Fitzgerald 92). Nick explains to the reader that Gatsby
