Daisy and Gatsby’s Love Story The natural nature of a human is full of desire. People long for things such as money, relationships, and happiness. Throughout the novel “The Great Gatsby”, the reader discovers the love story of Jay Gatsby and Daisy. In Gatsby’s early years when he served in the military, he fell in love with a young woman named Daisy. She belonged in the East Egger social class surrounded with riches. Daisy was in an unhealthy relationship with Tom Buchanan, her husband. Both characters fell out of love for one another. Due to growing up in old money, Gatsby was prevented from marrying Daisy. This inconvenience set the stage for the series of difficulties Gatsby faced in order to try and impress Daisy. Desperate to pursue her after not being able to have a relationship, Gastby used side jobs to earn money and become very wealthy. Knowing that wealth was the key to Daisy's heart, the mystery of Gatsby was created in order to impress her. His love for Daisy was genuine. Gatsby’s actions in being involved in suspicious jobs were motivated by his desire for Daisy. He was determined to win her hand in marriage no matter the distance or task he had to accomplish. Although Gatsby had true love for Daisy, her love for money overpowered her love for Gatsby.
